The launch of the highly awaited Mahindra Thar five-door variant has been officially announced by the manufacturer. Set to hit the market in Q2 FY 2025, this SUV will directly compete with the Maruti Jimny. In terms of design, the five-door Thar boasts a longer wheelbase compared to its three-door counterpart, resulting in increased cabin space. It will also feature a revamped front radiator grille, LED headlamps with DRLs, larger 19-inch alloy wheels, and two additional seats in the third row.
Recent spy shots have revealed several upgrades in the upcoming SUV, including a larger infotainment screen with wireless mobile connectivity, a single-pane sunroof, dual-zone climate control, digital instrument cluster, and a 360-degree camera. Notable additions also include a rear centre armrest, front parking sensors, and an electric fuel lid opener. Under the hood, the Mahindra Thar five-door is expected to offer both petrol and diesel engine options.
These include a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 200bhp/380Nm and a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 172bhp/400Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed torque converter unit.
