2024 Mini Countryman Electric: What to expect

Introduction The new Mini Cooper S and the latest-generation Countryman E electric SUV made their global debut in September 2023. The car manufacturer started taking bookings earlier this month and announced that both models would be launched on 24 July, alongside the new-generation BMW 5 Series. This launch will be the first time the Countryman will be available in India as a fully electric vehicle. Here’s what to expect.

Exterior The all-electric Mini Countryman Electric retains its distinctive design language despite sharing its platform with the BMW iX1. Updates at the front include the brand’s iconic octagonal grille and redesigned headlights with new DRLs. The rear features a revamped tailgate and taillights with updated LED elements.

Interior The cabin mirrors the Mini Cooper’s minimalist design and features a prominent 9.5-inch round OLED infotainment display. A futuristic heads-up display replaces the traditional instrument cluster, enhancing the driver-focused experience.

Powertrain Specs, Battery Packs, and Driving Range Although the powertrain options for India are yet to be confirmed, Mini offers two electric powertrains for the Countryman internationally. There’s a single-motor front-wheel-drive version producing 201bhp and 250Nm of torque. Additionally, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant delivers 309bhp and 494Nm of torque. Both models come with a 66.45kWh battery. The expected range is 462km for the single motor and 433km for the dual motor, though these figures may vary based on the final configuration for the Indian market.

Price and Competition The Mini Countryman Electric will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). While the petrol-powered Mini Countryman starts at Rs. 48.10 lakh (ex-showroom), the electric version is expected to command a premium, priced around Rs. 70 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with other electric vehicles like the Kia EV6, BMW iX1, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
