Mercedes-Benz is set to launch its entry-level EQA electric SUV in India on July 8, 2024. This debut marks the first of three product launches planned by the luxury car manufacturer in the country. Here’s an in-depth look at what to expect from this new electric vehicle (EV).
Exterior
The EQA’s design closely mirrors that of its larger siblings in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. The front showcases a black panel surface adorned with a star pattern, with a light band connecting the DRLs of the headlamps. It features high-performance LED headlights with adaptive high beam assist. The EQA comes equipped with an AMG Line exterior package, where the wheel arches cladding is painted to match the body color. The standard model rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, while the AMG Line trim adds AMG-specific body styling and 20-inch alloy wheels for a more dynamic look.
Interior
The interior of the EQA, particularly in the AMG Line trim, is equally impressive. It includes ‘AMG’ floor mats, aluminum trim, sports seats, illuminated door sills with ‘EQA’ lettering, galvanized paddle shifters, and pedals with unique rubber studs. The EQA also features a seat comfort package with four-way lumbar support for the front seats, heated front seats, a multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and a parking package with a reverse camera.
Powertrain
Globally, the Mercedes-Benz EQA is available in three trims, offering up to 560km (WLTP-claimed) range on a single charge. The EQA 300 4MATIC and EQA 350 4MATIC trims boast dual-motor setups, producing 227bhp and 291bhp, respectively. The base trim, EQA 250, produces 188bhp and features a front-wheel-drive system. While there is no official confirmation yet, Mercedes-Benz might introduce the range-topping variants in India. The EQA is powered by a 66.5kWh battery that supports up to 100kW DC onboard charging, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge in just 40 minutes. The 11kW wall box can charge the battery from 10 to 100 percent in five hours and 45 minutes.
Launch Timeline and Competition
The Mercedes-Benz EQA is expected to be priced around Rs. 65 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Upon its release, it will compete with the BMW iX1, Kia EV6, and Volvo XC40 Recharge in the Indian market.
