BMW CE 02 Electric Scooter Launched at Rs 4.50 Lakh in India
BMW Motorrad has triumphantly unveiled the exquisite CE 02 in India. Situated beneath the recently launched CE 04, this model is priced at an introductory Rs 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom). With its avant-garde aesthetic, cutting-edge features, and enduring battery life, the CE 02 is poised to become a formidable contender in the burgeoning electric vehicle market. The scooter has been meticulously crafted in collaboration with TVS at their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Through this offering, BMW seeks to captivate riders in search of a practical solution for urban commuting. Currently, reservations for the new CE 02 are open, allowing interested patrons to secure their vehicle through their nearest authorized BMW Motorrad dealership.
Design
The BMW CE 02, being more compact than the CE 04, boasts a design that elegantly merges the characteristics of both a scooter and a motorcycle. Its minimalist aesthetic is defined by a sparse arrangement of body panels, yielding a generous expanse of open space. This modern appearance is further accentuated by a sleek flat seat and a strikingly robust headlamp design. The e-scooter is available in two sophisticated color schemes: Cosmic Black and Cosmic Black.
Features
In terms of available trims, there are two options, with the Highline package representing the premium choice. The standard model features LED lighting, a USB Type-C charging port, two ride modes—Flow and Surf—alongside single-channel ABS, stability control, a reverse mode, keyless operation, an anti-theft alarm, and a 3.5-inch micro TFT display. The Highline package enhances the experience with an additional ride mode named Flash, distinctive contrasting color tapes, golden anodized forks, a tri-colored seat, and heated grips. It also includes a smartphone holder and Bluetooth connectivity for added convenience.
Mechanical Setup
The new BMW CE 02 is equipped with an air-cooled, current-excited synchronous motor, powered by two air-cooled lithium-ion batteries with a voltage of 48V and a combined energy capacity of 3.9 kWh. This model generates a maximum output of 15 bhp and a peak torque of 55 Nm. Thanks to its dual-battery configuration, the CE 02 is reported to offer a range of 108 km (as per ICAT) and can achieve a top speed of 95 km/h. With a seat height of 745 mm and a weight of 142 kg, the scooter accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in just 3 seconds. Charging from 0% to 100% takes 5 hours and 12 minutes with a standard 0.9 kW charger. For quicker charging, the Highline package includes or offers as an add-on a 1.5 kW quick charger, which can elevate the state of charge from 20% to 80% in a mere 102 minutes.
Hardware Components
On the hardware front, the CE 02 is constructed around a robust double-loop steel frame, incorporating a USD fork at the front and a monoshock system at the rear for optimal suspension performance. It features a 239 mm front disc and a 220 mm rear disc for efficient braking. Additionally, the scooter is equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels, fitted with 120/80 section tyres at the front and 150/70 section tyres at the rear.
In the international market, the price of this e-scooter commences at USD 7,599 (approximately Rs 6.36 lakh) and ascends to USD 8,474 (around Rs 7.10 lakh).
