Nissan Leaf : Should it come to Indian shores?
With the current trend of electric cars, Nissan has all set its base in the EV segment of automobiles. The all-electric version of the Nissan Leaf was revealed in 2017 at the IAA Frankfurt motor show and has first gone to sale in Japan.
Mechanical Power
The Nissan Leaf comes in three variants: S, SV, SL. All the three variants are equipped with a 110 KW AC synchronous electric motor which is capable of producing 147 HP and a torque of 236 LB-ft. The car is FWD type.
For storing power the hatchback is having 40KWH lithium ion battery and a 6.6 kW onboard charger. The vehicle is certified as a zero-emission vehicle. The base variant does not have quick charge feature while the SV and SL variant will be having the feature along with 240 V wall outlet portable charge cable.
Drivetrain
The drivetrain contains single-speed reduction gear, E-pedal, eco mode. The additional features such as regenerative braking system, intelligent trace control, and active ride control are seen on all the three variants.
Braking and suspension
For braking, Leaf has front and rear vented disc brakes with ABS on all four wheels. It is also integrated with brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution system coupled with hill start assist.
The front suspension is independent strut while the rear suspension is torsion beam suspension. For better optimization, the front and rear stabilizer bars are also fitted in the car. The steering is of vehicle-speed-sensitive electric power steering type.
