Bajaj to soon reveal electric rickshaw
Bajaj Auto is all set to enter into electric three-wheeler segment with its electric rickshaw Bajaj RE EV in coming days. The vehicle has been spotted testing at times and is expected to come with seating capacity of 1+3. The Bajaj RE EV will be pitted against Mahindra Treo EV and may be priced at around Rs. 2,50,000 (ex-showroom).
As per the specifications of Bajaj RE EV has surfaced online suggests that the rickshaw will be powered by a Bosch electric motor which can produce power of 5.76 BHP and can attain top speed of 42 km/h. The rickshaw will come with a 1.2 kW on-board charger.
The e-Rickshaw will come with dimensions of 2,714 mm in length, 1,350 mm in width, 1,772 mm in height. It will have a wheelbase of 2,010 mm and will weigh 732 kg. The prototype showcased during the MOVE 2018 Summit suggested that this e-rickshaw will return a range of 120km on a full charge. However, at this moment, the range of production vehicle is not known.
The showcased model was powered by a 48V swappable lithium-ion battery with active cooling technology which took 6 hours to fully juice up. The e-rickshaw was mounted on a12-inch wheels with low rolling resistance. It was packed with features such as regenerative braking to enhance the range. The e-rickshaw displayed came with features such as digital instrument cluster, optional onboard charging, and anti-theft features.
Once Bajaj enters EV e-rickshaw space, it will be welcomed by Piaggio India’s Ape and Mahindra Electric’s Treo Yaari e-rickshaws.
