All new Swift vs Elite i20: What you need to know

It’s 2018 and both Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are back with their hatchbacks in the budget segment.
Both The Swift and the I20 which fall in nearly the same price segment have quite a few identical features and specifications. Below are the points you should check before choosing one of the two.

Variants: The  Maruti Suzuki Swift comes in 12 variants ranging from Rs. 4.99 lakhs to Rs. 8.29(showroom price) lakhs with two engine variants: 1197cc (petrol) and 1248cc (diesel). While the Hyundai Elite I20 comes in same 12 variants ranging from Rs. 5.39 lakhs to Rs. 9.16 lakhs(showroom price) with 1197cc (petrol) and 1396cc (diesel) engine options

General specifications:

Transmission – Both cars come in petrol as well as diesel with automatic as well as manual transmission variants. I20 has a 6-speed manual and 4-speed Hi-vec transmission while swift has 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic gearbox. Both cars are FWD

Dimension-Length width and height dimensions of swift are 3840*1735*1530 mm while that of i20 are 3995*1710*1490 mm. both the cars are 5 seaters.

Steering Both cars come with power steering but I20 has an extra turning radius of 5.2 metres compared to that of Swift’s 4.8 metres.

Brakes Both cars have disc brakes at the front while drum brakes at rear.

Fuel– Swift has a fuel tank capacity of 37 litres while that of i20 is 40 litres. Mileage of Swift is 28.4 km/l for diesel and 22 km/l for petrol while that of I20 is 22.4 km/l for diesel and 19.8 km/l for petrol.

Tyres– Both cars have tubeless tyres. The tyre size of I20 is 195/55 R16 while that of swift is 185/65 R15

Power– Swift comes with 82bhp@6000 rpm and has a max torque of 113Nm@4200 rpm for petrol variant. For the diesel, it has a max power of 74bhp@4000 rpm and has a max torque of 190Nm@2000 rpm. While I20 has a max power of 82bhp@6000 rpm and max torque of 115Nm@400 rpm for the petrol engine. For the diesel, it comes with 89bhp@400 rpm and max torque of 220Nm@1500 rpm.

Safety– The Swift is integrated with just 2 Airbags compared to I20’s 6 airbags. Both cars have ABS as well as EBD braking system with the Swift having an extra feature known as ‘Brake Assist(BA)’.

Additional features (considering top variants):
Both cars have a nearly same amount of comfort features except I20 has rear AC vents imbibed in it.
Connectivity- TheSwift only supports Android Auto and Apple Car Play while the I20 supports both as well as Mirror link.
Both cars come with the infotainment systems for their top variant.
