Hyundai Creta Diesel MT Long Term Report: Introduction
It’s always a pleasure to return to a brand that has consistently delivered positive experiences. Over the past decade, I’ve had the opportunity to test several long-term Hyundai cars, and now, as I write about the new Creta that has just joined our fleet, I’m delighted to say that it feels like a sensible evolution of the previous model.
We’ve chosen a diesel manual Creta in the top-tier SX (O) trim. While this might seem unconventional in today’s market, where automatics and hybrid/EVs are gaining popularity, I still find a strong appeal in a diesel manual vehicle. Priced at Rs 22.70 lakh, including registration and insurance, our SX (O) variant is packed with features. Having driven over a thousand kilometers in its first month, mostly through Mumbai’s traffic during the peak of summer, the new Creta is winning me over with its comfort and efficiency.
The Creta also turns heads, likely due to its shiny black paint and the distinctive light bar arrangement at both the front and back. Additionally, it looks much less polarizing compared to the older model, which might also contribute to the attention it receives.
I’ve quickly grown fond of the 1.5-litre engine. For a diesel, it is impressively quiet. While you might hear a slight clatter at low speeds, this diesel engine is exceptionally smooth for its price point. Achieving over 16kmpl, with most of my driving in and around Mumbai, is quite impressive.
