Hyundai Kona Electric SUV launching next year in India

Hyundai has recently revealed the all-new Kona Electric SUV at the very much dazzled Geneva Motor Show 2018. The clean and green Kona Electric SUV will make its way to India sometime next year as Hyundai’s first electric offering. The Kona SUV is a five-seat SUV and in terms of measurements, the SUV measures similar to the Hyundai Creta. While in Europe the Kona will go on sale by mid-2018.  The Kona Electric SUV now comes with a battery set up which swaps the petrol motor used in the standard Kona which debuted last year.

Instead of importing as a completely built unit (CBU), Hyundai is planning to assemble the Kona electric SUV at Chennai through the completely knocked down (CKD)  kit route. With the launching of Kona Hyundai means business and is not looking at bigger sales numbers for the Kona SUV, but is trying to make a technology statement and show their commitment to an EV future. Hyundai is planning to create an everyday electric vehicle which can do better and go miles and miles without any worries and that too in a single charge.  The Kona will be priced at a bit higher side because of its Lithium-ion batteries that cost a fortune.

The Kona Electric SUV coming to India will be equipped with an electric motor generating 134 hp and 395 Nm. The SUV will offer a battery range of 300 killometers and will have a top speed of 155 kph. The SUV is said to do 0-100 kph sprint in just 9.7 seconds. which is said to make it the fastest SUV from Hyundai in India. The batteries will take 6 hours and 10 minutes to charge fully while the fast charging option will allow the battery to be charged at 80% from empty in just 54 minutes. Hyundai is planning to sell 50-60 units of the Kona Electric SUV in the country each month.
