Hyundai three-row EV SUV to debut this year
Hyundai is set to enter the three-row electric SUV market later this year. The company has officially confirmed that the Ioniq Concept Seven will transition into production, initially debuting in the US market before expanding globally.
Introduced in 2021, the Concept Seven’s silhouette closely resembles that of the EV9 concept car, sharing similar dimensions both inside and out. However, the production model will feature a more conventional design, blending Hyundai’s current SUV design language, which combines boxy shapes with curvy elements.
The Concept Seven is expected to share its powertrain, feature list, and practicality with the EV9, reflecting the common practice of shared components within the Hyundai-Kia group. Like the EV9, the Concept Seven will be available in both six-seat and seven-seat configurations. However, Hyundai, being the more established brand globally, is anticipated to offer more six-seat variants compared to the EV9.
Another significant development, though not yet officially confirmed, is that the Concept Seven will be named the Ioniq 9, highlighting its position at the top of Hyundai’s lineup. Hyundai is expected to introduce this vehicle to the Indian market as part of its future offerings. However, it will primarily aim to establish brand presence rather than generate high sales volumes, given that the Ioniq 9 is anticipated to be priced around Rs. 90 lakh and will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU). The Ioniq 9 is projected to be part of Hyundai India’s lineup by 2026.
This strategic move underscores Hyundai’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle offerings and establishing a strong foothold in the emerging electric SUV market.
