India-bound Audi Q5 now available in Sportback version

Audi India is preparing to unveil the third-generation Q5 mid-size SUV in 2025, with an exciting addition to the lineup – the Q5 Sportback. First revealed earlier this year, the new Q5 Sportback features a sleeker, more dynamic design compared to the standard Q5. The Sportback version will be available for sale in Europe starting January, with the first customer deliveries expected by May 2025.

The Q5 Sportback merges the rugged traits of an SUV with the smooth, coupe-like design elements that provide a more athletic stance. The second-generation model boasts an impressive luggage capacity of up to 515 litres, with the SQ5 Sportback offering up to 470 litres. When the second-row seats are folded down, storage expands to as much as 1,415 litres, or 1,388 litres in the SQ5 Sportback. Additionally, the vehicle has a towing capacity of up to 2,400kg.

This model is equipped with Audi’s innovative 48-volt MHEV plus electrical system, which works alongside the combustion engine to enhance performance and lower carbon emissions. The system also allows the Q5 Sportback to perform limited all-electric movements, such as maneuvering and parking. The new powertrain generator (PTG) offers an extra 230Nm of torque and 24bhp. Furthermore, the 48-volt system powers an electric air conditioning compressor, maintaining full cooling capacity even when the engine is off, such as during coasting or idling at traffic lights. The lithium-ion battery offers a storage capacity of 1.7kWh, and the belt alternator starter plays a crucial role in starting the engine and powering the electrical system.

At launch, the Audi Q5 Sportback will be available with three engine options, with additional variants expected in the future. Each model will feature the MHEV plus technology, briefly generating an extra 24bhp of power. All versions will come equipped with the S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and Audi’s signature quattro all-wheel-drive system.
