India-bound Volvo EX90 electric SUV production begins
Volvo has announced that its South Carolina production facility has commenced building the brand’s new electric flagship SUV, the EX90. Customer deliveries are set to begin in the second half of this year, with the vehicle launching in key markets globally, including India.
Volvo’s first U.S. manufacturing plant, located outside Charleston, opened in 2018 and currently produces both the EX90 and the S60 sedan. The plant has a production capacity of up to 150,000 cars annually. The EX90 is based on Volvo’s dedicated electric vehicle (EV) technology platform and boasts a fully electric range of up to 600km.
Volvo India has confirmed that the EX90 will be available in the Indian market, alongside its entry-level counterpart, the EX30. Currently, Volvo offers two electric models in India: the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge. The seven-seater EX90, which made its global debut in 2022, features a 111kWh battery pack, delivering a range of up to 600km on a single charge. This battery powers two electric motors, one on each axle, producing up to 500bhp and 900Nm of peak torque.
The entry-level EX30 will come with a 69kWh battery pack and a twin motor setup, offering a claimed range of up to 474km on a full charge.
Stay tuned for more updates as Volvo continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup globally and in India.
