Kia Sonet EV?

Recent spy shots circulating online suggest that Kia may be developing an electric version of its popular sub-four-metre SUV, the Sonet. The heavily camouflaged test vehicle hints at Kia’s plans to introduce a Nexon EV competitor, likely after the launch of the Carens EV.

The upcoming Kia Sonet EV is expected to be based on the facelifted version of the Sonet, which was launched in India earlier this year. However, the EV variant could feature unique design elements such as a blanked-off grille, newly designed alloy wheels, refreshed front and rear bumpers, and new color options to distinguish it from its petrol and diesel counterparts.

EV-Specific Modifications

Sources report that the test mule lacked an exhaust system and produced no engine noise, confirming its all-electric nature. While details about the interior changes remain scarce, the Sonet EV may receive minor updates to suit its electric powertrain.

Kia’s Expanding EV Lineup

Kia India currently offers two electric vehicles: the EV6 and the newly introduced EV9. The Carens EV is expected to join the lineup early next year, followed by the Sonet EV. The Sonet EV could come equipped with a battery pack paired with a single electric motor, offering an estimated range of 400km on a full charge, positioning it as a strong contender in India’s growing EV market.
