Kia working on a new compact EV below the EV3
Kia appears to be expanding its lineup with the development of a new compact electric vehicle (EV) set to slot just below the recent EV3 model. Sources reveal that the upcoming EV, expected to be named the EV2, has already been seen in prototype form in Europe.
With the EV3 measuring 4.3 meters in length, it sits at the top of the B-SUV segment and approaches the mid-size premium category. This leaves space in Kia’s electric vehicle range for a smaller, more accessible model, which is where the EV2 comes into play. Following the introduction of Hyundai’s compact electric Inster, Kia’s move to introduce a small electric crossover seems imminent. While the Inster is positioned as an A-SUV, the EV2 aims to serve as a versatile and practical addition, filling the gap left by the discontinued e-Soul.
As a fully electric model, the EV2’s propulsion system will be a focal point. The model is expected to come with a choice of two battery sizes, with an anticipated maximum range of over 400 km on the WLTP cycle in the top variant. Fast charging capabilities will also be a priority, with Kia targeting a 10 to 80 percent charge in about 30 minutes via a fast charger.
Kia plans to officially reveal the EV2 in the latter half of 2025, with an expected release in dealerships as a 2026 model. Manufacturing will take place at Kia’s facility in Slovakia, strengthening its commitment to the European market.
