KTM unveils Duke 990R at 2024 EICMA; gets more power, features
KTM has introduced a high-performance variant of its popular Duke 990, named the Duke 990 R. This new model comes packed with features and boasts an increase in power, setting it apart from the standard version.
One of the most significant enhancements in the Duke 990 R lies in its engine. The motorcycle is powered by a 947cc parallel-twin engine that delivers an additional 7bhp compared to the base model, thanks to a higher rpm limit, while maintaining the same torque output.
The Duke 990 R is equipped with premium 48mm WP Apex open-cartridge forks at the front, offering full adjustability. KTM claims these thicker forks provide a 34% increase in stiffness, resulting in a more dynamic and sporty riding experience. The rear suspension has also been upgraded with a new linkage that connects to the front, although the overall suspension system remains similar to the base model.
Braking is handled by Brembo Stylema calipers paired with dual 320mm discs at the front, ensuring powerful stopping power. The bike comes standard with Bosch ABS, a multi-level traction control system, and various riding modes. Additionally, the presence of an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) enables cornering ABS as a standard feature. The Duke 990 R is also equipped with a new H88 TFT instrument cluster, which not only looks impressive but also integrates with the KTM app for navigation and smartphone connectivity.
Currently, the KTM Duke 990 R is available in a single color option and is expected to launch in Europe and the US next year. There are also indications that it may arrive in India in the coming year, depending on the market’s response to other high-performance motorcycles set to debut on November 14.
