Mahindra BE 6e renamed to BE 6
Mahindra has unveiled its first set of born-electric vehicles in the Indian market, the XEV 9e and the BE 6e. However, the BE 6e has now been rebranded as ‘BE 6’ due to a legal dispute with IndiGo over the use of the ‘6e’ nomenclature.
The automaker clarified that its trademark for the BE series, including the BE 6e, is registered under class 12, specifically pertaining to vehicles. Mahindra emphasized that its mark is registered as ‘BE 6e’ rather than the standalone ‘6E,’ which is a trademark associated with IndiGo Airlines. Furthermore, Mahindra pointed out the significant difference between the two entities: while IndiGo’s ‘6E’ pertains to the airline sector, Mahindra’s BE 6e belongs to the automobile industry, minimizing any potential overlap or confusion.
Despite these distinctions, Mahindra has decided to comply with the interim decision by renaming the BE 6e to BE 6 for the time being. The company remains committed to defending its rights and will continue to pursue the matter legally to reinstate the original name, BE 6e. Until a resolution is reached, the vehicle will be marketed under its revised name, BE 6.
