Mahindra XUV300 : Ssangyong Tivoli based compact SUV’s name revealed
The XUV300, codenamed S201, rivals the Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza and also marks a return for Mahindra’s alpha-numeric nomenclature after the Marazzo and the Alturas G4.
Mahindra has finally revealed the name for its newest offering in the sub-4-meter compact SUV segment. Codenamed the S201, their new car has been named the XUV300 (double O).
This car shares its platform with the Ssangyong Tivoli, a successful product in the global market with more than 2 lakh cars sold worldwide. The company carries forward its cheetah-inspired design philosophy, first seen in the XUV500. Mahindra claims that the car gets flared rear wheel arches which imitate the Cheetah’s muscular haunches. Along with this, the side profile of the car imitates the movements of a cheetah when trying to attack its prey. The front fascia also shows the resemblance of the Cheetah’s face, with the headlamps integrating with the fog lamps to form a tear-duct.
The Mahindra XUV300 will come with segment-first features such as dual-zone climate control disc brakes on all 4 corners and most importantly, 7 airbags. On the top-spec models, we will see LED DRLs in the front, LED taillights and 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Mahindra has made claims that this car will definitely exceed Indian safety standards. It would be intriguing to see whether the XUV300 will live up to the standards that its main rivals, the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza have set.
Mahindra hasn’t revealed what engines will be under the bonnet of the XUV300, but what we do know is that there will be 1 petrol and 1 diesel engine at launch with only 1 transmission which is a 6-speed manual, with the automatic version coming in the future. Mahindra says that for now, these engines will be BS-IV compliant, but once the BS-VI norms are introduced, they will launch the new engines accordingly.
Reports said that Mahindra could bring an all electric version of this car. They confirmed today that in 2020, there will be the launch of an all-electric XUV300 (codenamed S210). The name of that car will be different.
Mahindra also revealed that this car will be manufactured at their Nashik plant and will be launched in the first half of February 2019. Prices for the car will be shown at the launch. Considering the segment in which it is in, it will be priced competitively for its rivals to scratch their heads.
