New compact SUV from Kia coming in 2025

Kia has been frequently testing a new compact SUV, and it’s now confirmed that this vehicle will be positioned below the Sonet in the Indian market. Likely to be named the Clavis, this new model is set for launch next year. It will share the same platform and underpinnings as the Sonet but will be scaled down in terms of features and powertrains.

Following the strategy employed by Hyundai with the Exter and Tata with the Punch—each positioned below their respective Venue and Nexon models—Kia is expected to offer a 1.2-litre petrol engine for the Clavis. This engine will be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission (MT) or a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), the latter being a first for Kia if introduced.

Although Kia has noted minimal interest in CNG among its current customers, entering this market segment might necessitate offering a CNG option to achieve higher sales volumes. The existing technology, like the dual-cylinder layout seen in Hyundai’s Exter, could potentially be utilized for the Clavis.

The Clavis has been spotted multiple times, showcasing a boxy design with low-set headlamps, large wheels, and a square stance that gives it an old-school SUV appearance. Expected features include dual screens, climate control, LED lights, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat.

This compact SUV aims to blend practicality with a retro design, offering a new option for buyers looking for a smaller, feature-rich vehicle in the competitive Indian market.
