Skoda-Volkswagen hit 15 lakh units production milestone in India
The Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Group has reached a remarkable milestone, producing over 1.5 million units at the Chakan, Pune plant since its inception in 2009. This facility has been instrumental in manufacturing a range of models including the Skoda Fabia, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Polo, and Volkswagen Vento, as well as all newer models based on the MQB platform.
Presently, the MQB-A0-IN platform has led to the creation of several models such as the Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, and Volkswagen Taigun. These models have significantly contributed to the overall production milestone, accounting for over 300,000 units. Additionally, the Chakan plant has produced 380,000 engines, including the highly popular 1.0-litre TSI engine.
Moreover, the Volkswagen Group has exported 30 percent of these India-made vehicles to 40 countries, positioning India as the fourth largest export hub for the brand globally.
Commenting on this achievement, Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, stated, “The production of 1.5 million vehicles at our Chakan plant, along with the milestone of four successful MQB models and a decade of engine manufacturing, underscores our commitment to India’s automotive industry. SAVWIPL’s significant contribution to the nation’s talent and workforce is a testament to our dedication and success.”
