Suzuki e Vitara is the first new BEV from Maruti

Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming electric SUV, the e Vitara, has been unveiled as the production-ready version of the Maruti eVX. Scheduled for a global release in 2025, it will first reach Europe and Japan, followed by an India launch in summer 2025. Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility will serve as the global production hub for this new electric model.

Key Specifications
The e Vitara measures approximately 4.23 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.7 meters, aligning it with its key competitors. It will be available with two battery pack options: a 49kWh variant with front-wheel drive (FWD) and a 61kWh pack, which supports both FWD and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.

The 49kWh battery is paired with a motor generating 142 bhp and 189 Nm of torque. The 61kWh version provides two power outputs: 171 bhp and 189 Nm for the 2WD version, or an enhanced AWD setup featuring a 181 bhp front motor and a 64 bhp rear motor, achieving a combined torque of 300 Nm. This AWD configuration represents Suzuki’s most powerful drivetrain in over two decades.

The e Vitara is built on Suzuki’s new Heartect-e platform, a dedicated EV architecture that will underpin upcoming electric models, including future versions of the Baleno, Jimny, Ertiga, and Swift.

Interior Design
The e Vitara’s cabin sets a new design direction for Maruti Suzuki, focusing on minimalism and functionality. Key features include a seamless one-piece display, a redesigned center console, vertical air vents, and an updated flat-bottom steering wheel. Although it has a clean, button-driven layout, the interior retains a distinctive Maruti Suzuki feel, which may help in transitioning existing Maruti customers from conventional to electric vehicles.

Features and Technology
The e Vitara’s features are expected to include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) at Level 2, a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, and a complete LED lighting package. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki plans to offer multiple fast-charging options along with V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) capabilities as part of the EV package.

Made in India, for Global Markets
Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant will produce the e Vitara for global distribution. As mentioned, it will initially launch in Europe and Japan, followed by India in mid-2025. The e Vitara will make its Asian debut at the Auto Expo in January 2025, competing in a growing EV market alongside models like the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Honda Elevate EV, Mahindra XUV.e9, Hyundai Creta EV, and Kia Carens EV.

This marks a significant step for Maruti Suzuki as it leverages its domestic manufacturing capabilities to introduce an electric model that meets international standards and caters to both domestic and global markets.
