Tata Curvv-rival Citroen Basalt revealed; to go on sale in H2 2024
Recently, French automaker Citroen offered a sneak peek of its highly anticipated coupe SUV, the Basalt. Now, the veil has been lifted, revealing this competitor to the Tata Curvv. Originally named the C3X, the Basalt is slated to hit the market in the latter half of 2024.
Visually, the Basalt boasts a distinctive notchback design, resembling a sedan with an elevated stance. At the front, its grille bears a resemblance to the C3 Aircross, complemented by redesigned LED headlights, modified front bumpers, new alloy wheels, bold wheel arches, and a dual-tone exterior finish. Moving to the rear, it flaunts wraparound LED taillights, a silver faux plate, and a prominent Citroen logo at the center.
Internally, expectations are high for the coupe SUV to feature a sizable infotainment screen with wireless connectivity, digital driver’s display, keyless entry, wireless charging, automatic climate control, and cruise control. Safety-wise, it may come equipped with six airbags as standard, along with a rear parking camera with sensors, ISOFIX, and TPMS.
While Citroen has yet to disclose technical specifications, it’s anticipated that the Basalt will retain the same engine as the Citroen C3 Aircross. Beneath the surface, a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine is likely, tuned to deliver 109bhp and 205Nm of torque, coupled with a six-speed manual or torque converter transmission.
Expressing his thoughts, Thierry Koskas, CEO of Citroen, stated, “We are thrilled to introduce the third installment of this initiative aimed at propelling Citroen’s global expansion. Our local teams are fully committed to unveiling this innovative SUV Coupe concept in the coming months, boasting striking design, spacious interiors, and unparalleled onboard comfort. Developed and manufactured locally, we are confident that the Basalt will resonate with a wide audience and bolster our presence in key markets. Stay tuned for more updates in the middle of the year.”
