The name ‘Tata Sumo’ is a tribute to Sumant Moolgaokar, a former MD of Tata Motors

The name ‘Sumo’ is all about the strength of a visionary leader. Tata Motors derived this name to pay tribute to a former Tata Motors MD, SUmant MOolgaokar – SUMO. He is also known as the architect of Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO) now known as Tata Motors Limited (TML). Many a time SuMo would skip the company lunchroom and have lunch in dhaba with the truck drivers. Feedback from the truck drivers were to improve upon the driver’s experience.
