Toyota Innova HyCross pictures leaked: Everything we know so far
The Innova is no doubt India’s favorite MPV, and it’s set to undergo a major transformation with loads of tech, new engine, new platform and more luxury
The Toyota Innova Hycross is set to debut in India on 25th November. It is no doubt one of the most important event of Indian Automobile market as the Innova nameplate has a huge legacy and importance in the Indian automotive scene.
The Innova name is synonymous to space, reliability, comfort and VFM. The VFM part has taken a bit, if we were to be honest, as the current gen Innova Crysta offers a lot less on the feature front. However, the Hycross name will bring with it a lot of radical changes to the Innova. Lets go through some of them.
Chassis
The Toyota Innova Hycross will be based on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform, which globally underpins the Corolla sedan and Corolla Cross C-SUV. So, gone are the Innova’s ladder frame chassis day. The monocoque frame will make the MPV lighter, stronger and shall provide better driving dynamics and comfort. The Hycross is longer than the current gen Innova Crysta, at 4.75m. The wheelbase will reportedly be 2.75m, which is also more than the Crysta. This shall translate to more space in the interiors. The Innova HyCross will be offered with 6,7, and 8 seater options.
Interiors
The interiors of the new Innova Hycross will be departure from the functional layout of the Crysta. As seen above from imaes leaked prior to the Indonesian unveil, the Innova Hycross will feature a highly luxurious interior. Expansive use of soft touch material, better fit and finish will take the Innova’s luxury quotient many notches up.
The interior will also be roomier because of the aforementioned increase in length and wheelbase. The middle row captain seats are also rumoured to get footrests like lounge chairs. Other interior features will include a massive sunroof, multicolor ambient lighting, 2/3 zone climate control.
Engine specifications
Perhaps the biggest and certainly the most important change will be that of the engine. The Toyota Innova Hycross will get a 2.0 litre turbo-petrol engine along with Strong Hybrid tech. While the current Innova is known for its reliable diesel engine with strong low end torque, the Innova Hycross will not have a diesel engine option. The 2.0 litre petrol engine, along with the strong hybrid system will help the Hycross deliver a fuel efficiency of a rumoured 20-23kmpl! It remains to see wether Toyota updates the battery of the Hybris system to Lithium Ion instead of the current NiMH batteries on the HyRyders system.
Pricing
Given the radica changes Toyota is set to give the Innova, pricing shall play a crucial role in the success of the Innova’s new avtar. Toyota dealers say that the pricing won’t differ much than that of the Crysta’s. Beraing that in mid, expect a price tag starting at the Rs.23 lakh mark, while the top spec hybrid models will be priced around Rs. 29 lakh(ex-showroom). Fingers crossed on this aspect as Toyota India is known to often overprice their products.
