Mahindra to price electric KUV100 at under ₹9 lakh

Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday said that it will be launching the mini sports utility vehicle, KUV100 in the electric variant. Previously showcased at the Auto Expo 2018, the eKUV100 is priced under Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom) making it one of the most affordable EVs available in the country. The eKUV100 is expected to be launched in the next quarter of the year, mostly between April- June.

Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, M&M, said at an event, “We have the eKUV that will come up in the first quarter of the next financial year. Our focus is on shared mobility and, therefore, we want to make it affordable and price it at less than 9 lakh; you will see it at the upcoming Auto Expo.”

Apart from a few modifications like a revised grille, refurbished headlights and taillamps, the eKUV looks quite identical to the petrol variant of the mini SUV, otherwise. Coming to the interior, expect no major changes except for a digital instrument console and a bigger infotainment system.

The eKUV100 will come with a 15.9 kWh lithium-ion battery churning out a maximum power of 53 bhp and 120 Nm of peak torque. It can run up to 120 km on a single charge. The car will be compatible with a wall socket with both standard and fast-charging options.

Other cars like the Tata Nexon EV and the MG ZS EV are also slated for launch this year but are expected to come with higher price tags. The eKUV100, however, will rival against the Tata Tigor EV in the same price range.
